Apple iTunes, QuickTime have more security issues
Apple Computers had recently launched updated versions of their popular iTunes digital jukebox application and the QuickTime media player. This update was to fix certain security bugs in the application. However, new security flaws have appeared in these two software applications, which are yet to be fixed.
A security firm has warned that a new critical vulnerability in the program has been discovered which can let attackers grab control of PCs and Macs. The alert was posted on the internet by the security firm eEye Digital Security. They said that a ‘remotely exploitable flaw exists that allows arbitrary code to be executed in the context of the logged in user’.
They have not released the details as they expect the company to fix the flaw first to prevent any malicious abuse by hackers. They have also alerted the Macintosh maker of another flaw. This time in their QuickTime software application. This vulnerability in various versions of the QuickTime software can also be exploited remotely, and might result in an attacker grabbing control of the victimized computer.
Apple as usual has not commented on these issues as they seldom do before analyzing the problem and issuing a fix. Therefore, users of these two applications can expect another security update to both these applications in the near future.
