Toshiba to offer OpenSolaris powered laptops
This is a surprising new development. Japanese personal computer maker Toshiba has announced that they are collaborating with Sun Microsystems to offer laptops based on their OpenSolaris operating system.
These laptops would go on sale early next year and would be aimed at the geeks.
A company representative said: “Toshiba and Sun are announcing that we’re going to pre-configure and optimize OpenSolaris for certain Toshiba models.”
This news is somewhat surprising considering OpenSolaris is generally considered to be an OS aimed at servers and high performance computing requirements.
It remains to be seen if consumers are interested in this machine.
