MySpace Mobile launches video streaming in partnership with RipCode
MySpace has announced the launch of mobile video streaming service in collaboration with mobile video company RipCode.
They are now the first and only social networking service to offer this service.
With this they are taking on YouTube mobile edition.
The company said that their service is designed to deliver the highest possible video quality for mobile viewing.
John Faith, vice president and general manager of mobile for MySpace added: “MySpace will continue to grow our video library as we increase delivery channels in order to keep pace with our users’ accelerating desire for video consumption.”
market analyst Phil Leigh added: “Internet video is now on the TV, the computer, and the mobile device — and it’s advancing on all three fronts. It’s well established on the computer now, and it’s beginning to move into the mobile devices and the television more rapidly. We’ll see more of this in 2009 and beyond.”
To provide mobile video streaming service, MySpace is using RipCode’s On-Demand Video Transcoding technology. This enables them to support several different handsets at the same time.
