Microsoft launches SQL Server 2005
Software giant Microsoft is renewing their efforts to compete against the leaders in the database market, Oracle. They have just launched the latest version of their corporate database software SQL Server 2005. this application was due to be launched sometime back but got delayed several times as engineers decided to spend more times fixing bugs and making it more reliable.
Both the companies are also involved in developing business software, which helps the companies to track customer accounts, manage payroll, finances, and human resources. Oracle has been on a buying spree to enhance their expertise in this field in the recent times. And Microsoft is also planning to catch with them on this frontier.
Microsoft has also launched Visual Studio 2005 in addition to the SQL Server 2005. This set of tools is used by the software developers to create applications for the windows platform. The company is now expected to launch a program for tracking business processes, called BizTalk Server 2006, next year. Microsoft vice president Steve Guggenheimer said in a statement about their plans for the market: “These three together continue to provide much better capabilities for the biggest enterprises. For enterprise customers give them another reason to look at Microsoft technology.”
To promote these applications amongst the users, the company plans to offer free versions of the two programs for personal use so that individuals can create their own databases, Web sites, and software programs. This is just some of the few mega product launches, Microsoft is due to make in the coming year which also includes the Xbox 360, Windows Vista Operating System, MS Office 12 and the new version of their MSN Hotmail service codenamed Kahuna.
