Nokia releases Open Source browser for Mobile Phones

Opera Browser has new competition in the mobile market where they practically dominate with their technical advancements and feature capabilities. World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has just unveiled an open-source web browser for mobile phones using technologies received from Apple Computers.

They would be putting this browser on their S60 advanced cellular phones. It has been developed using WebCore and JavaScriptCore components of Apple’s Safari Web Kit, which is an open source Web rendering engine for mobile devices. Apple uses this web kit to develop their Safari web browser, which is shipped with their Mac OS X Operating System.

Nokia was addressing the media and public at its Mobility Conference 2005 in Barcelona, Spain when they announced this browser application. They also said that they would be relying heavily on this browser product, which it said performs well on high-speed, 3G networks. The aim is to make browser on the smaller screen easier so that the customer can use the internet to search and download more content.

This browser is designed to minimize scrolling, block popup ads, and offer useful features like text search and a visual history of web pages. They have also said that they would be expecting open source community to contribute to their product to make it better and more efficient.
