Dell Computers to come preloaded with Trend Micro security software

Dell Computers recently announced their plans to introduce an optional secondary hard drive in their machines, which would mirror the data on the primary disk to prevent any accidental deletion of data. Now they are going one-step ahead. The latest news in is that the company has collaborated with Trend Micro Inc. to add security software to their hardware offerings.

Japanese security software maker Trend Micro would now be selling their Internet security software to consumers on Dell machines. The companies however declined to declare their financial terms. The program starts next week when Dell would be starting loading free 90-day trial versions of PC-cillin on PCs shipped to North American consumers.

In addition to this, Dell would be designating the Trend Micro’s PC-cillin software as “Dell Recommended” on its Web site catalog from February 2006. Until now, they are recommending Trend’s rival product McAfee and Symantec products. This program is not going to guarantee any sales for the company but it might lead to a healthier market share for Trend in the US market where it stands at just 7 percent — far behind Symantec and McAfee.

Trend Micro is also due to release an upgrade to PC-cillin on Monday. They developed this updated version with help from Dell and customer feedback.
