Microsoft issues an out-of-cycle patch for major security issue
Software giant Microsoft did something unusual yesterday. The company issued a out-of-cycle patch which was aimed to fix a major security issue in their operating systems.
The company usually releases their security patches on the second Tuesday of the month. This release is generally named as Patch Tuesday.
This new patch was labeled as critical for Windows XP and older versions. They labeled it as an important update for the Windows Vista operating system.
Microsoft said in a security advisory that it is possible that this vulnerability could be used in the crafting of a wormable exploit.
The company further said that there have been only limited and targeted attacks to date.
