Microsoft targets pirate users in China with Black Screen

Microsoft delivered a new software through its Windows Genuine Advantage Program in China.

Chinese users who were on pirated copies of Windows operating system were then greeted with black screen which wiped out information on the monitor.

This update is designed to turn the screen black after every 60 minutes if the copy of Windows or MS Office on the computer is found to be counterfeit.

Microsoft said that this latest program is designed to alert the user that they are using unauthorized software on their computers.

The company is being criticized by the users in the country who claim that this program violates their privacy.

A lawsuit has also been filed against the US based software giant saying that the company should target the producers of fake software rather than target the individuals.

Scott Buchanan of the Microsoft Office team spoke about this new initiative: “As part of its anti-piracy efforts, Microsoft launched an Office Genuine Advantage notifications program in China. OGA is part of Microsoft’s commitment to protect its customers and partners from counterfeiters. Customers with genuine Office will not be impacted by notifications. Customers using non-genuine Office will receive dialog-box alerts and will be directed to options to get genuine.”
