Microsoft launches Web Application Installer
Software giant Microsoft has launched Web Application Installer which is designed to compliment their existing product named Web Platform Installer.
Web Platform Installer enables a server administrator to install and configure entire web platform stack.
It can install products like .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, IIS7.0 and Extensions, IIS FastCGI, Visual Web Developer 2008, SQL Server 2008 Express, SQL Server Management Studio, ASP.NET MVC and Silverlight Tools on the server.
The newly launched Web Application Installer is designed to work along with it and install web based applications on the server.
It is currently designed to install web apps like Graffiti, DotNetNuke, WordPress, Drupal, OSCommerce, and phpBB.
It would install the latest version automatically as it grabs the source files from the vendor’s own site.
