PHP is rapidly catching up with companies to give Java competition
If we are to believe the developers of the open source programming language PHP, it is rapidly catching up with its commercial alternatives and catching up with Java. Ken Jacobs, Oracle’s vice president of product strategy even went to the extent of saying: “We think PHP is ready for enterprise use.†However, others believe that the competition exists on certain levels definitely and it would be interesting to see the development in the coming times.
PHP is also finding itself favors amongst C developers. There are now many extensions written in C for the PHP. In addition, even .net is somewhat coming into supporting this programming standard. There is a notion in the tech community about the stability and reliability of this open source language when it comes to scaled environment.
However, Yahoo! being one of the prime examples of using this open-source scripting language, the developers claim that PHP can stand up to any levels of traffic and data if it is done carefully. PHP is to see another version update shortly to reach 5.1. PHP 6 is expected to be out sometime next year and should become a popular web programming language with newer features and security enhancements.
