Enabling TraceMonkey JavaScript Engine in Firefox 3.1

Now that Mozilla has launched the first beta of Firefox 3.1, you have to try out the new TraceMonkey JavaScript Engine that everyone is talking about.

TraceMonkey JavaScript Engine is the thing that Mozilla believes would make Firefox faster than even Google Chrome which was launched last month.

However, it is still disabled in the latest beta by default.

Enabling TraceMonkey JavaScript Engine in Firefox 3.1 is pretty simple. Once you have installed the beta version, all you need is to go to the location bar and put in about:config.

This would open up a variety of options that can be tweaked to change the settings in the Firefox browser.

You now need to make changes to two settings:

javascript.options.jit.chrome
javascript.options.jit.content

Locate both of them using the search box and set them to be true.

That’s it. Your Firefox would now use the latest and the fastest (as per their claims) JavaScript engine!
