Windows 7 is now official successor to Windows Vista!
Microsoft has now stated that the next version of their Windows operating system would be called Windows 7.
So, no fancy name like Vista or XP for the next edition of Windows OS.
Mike Nash, vice president of Windows product management wrote in a blog post: “Simply put, this is the seventh release of Windows, so therefore ‘Windows 7′ just makes sense.”
Microsoft previously used years instead of version numbers. Then they started using keywords. And now we have version numbers in the naming convention.
Nash added: “We do not ship new versions of Windows every year. Likewise, coming up with an all-new ‘aspirational’ name does not do justice to what we are trying to achieve, which is to stay firmly rooted in our aspirations for Windows Vista, while evolving and refining the substantial investments in platform technology in Vista into the next generation of Windows.”
Microsoft last used the version number in Windows 3 edition. It has come a long way since then.
