OpenOffice.org 3 launched
The developers behind the popular open source office productivity suite OpenOffice.org have launched the latest version.
OpenOffice.org is in version 3.0 now and it is available as a free download.
The latest updated edition can now open and read Microsoft Office 2007 file formats.
However, it still is unable to write files in that format.
The support for these files is also incomplete as it usually is. Is this going to be good enough for most users? Only time will tell.
The Mac edition of OpenOffice.org 3 is an important update. This edition on Apple Mac installs as a a normal OS X application.
The developers have also improved the startup time of the applications.
