Mozilla Firefox touches 100 millionth download mark
Of course, these figures will not be very accurate or means that there are 100 million Mozilla Firefox users around this world. Nevertheless, it still is a serious milestone for the open foundation to achieve. Just before the open source web browser celebrates its first birthday next month, the Mozilla Foundation has announced that their offering has seen more than 100 million downloads from their official website.
The organization has seen constant adoption of their web browser by the users around the world. It has reached a market share of around 8%, which they expect to improve to 10% in the coming months, as they get ready to launch the Mozilla Firefox 1.5 edition. It still manages to touch around 200,000 and 300,000 downloads a day.
Mozilla unofficial spokesperson Asa Dotzler said on this occasion: “This is a great milestone. Our massive, worldwide community of grassroots marketers and users–not to mention the developers–have helped to put out a product that’s really kicking butt.†However, the recent security issues that the browser has seen and the fact that Opera Browser has also decided to go free and with Microsoft planning to soon release the final of the Internet Explorer 7 edition, the next year would be the real challenge for Mozilla Firefox.
