YouTube like web pages being used to spread malware
YouTube is one of the most popular online destinations worldwide. Users end up spending hours checking out videos hosted on the service.
Malware writers are now using the lure for YouTube to spread their crapware. They are using web pages which are designed to mimic YouTube video pages to attract users to install viruses and spyware.
The links to these pages are delivered to potential victims through emails and instant messages.
Once the user visits these pages, he is told to install software to enable them to check the video.
The application is smart and once the user installs the malware, he is actually redirected to a real YouTube video page so that he is not alerted by the move.
Security analyst Jamz Yaneza spoke about this new kind of attack: “If I were watching YouTube videos all day I would probably click on this one.”
