Apple updates QuickTime to support the new iPod Video

Apple did not just launch the new iPod Video and iMac G5; they also updated two of their most popular media software offerings. iTunes is now in version 6 capable of playing and downloading purchased video content from the web based digital store. In addition, the company has also updated their QuickTime application to version 7.0.3. It works as the core of the various other Apple software offerings for Mac and Windows.

This update is worth around a 34 Megs download and is available for free from the Apple website. Apple Mac OS X users can download the latest update through their software update facility. The company added about this updated release “delivers several important bug fixes, primarily in the areas of streaming and H.264 video”.

Apple suggests that all Apple QuickTime 7 users should upgrade to this version to get the best performance from the application. Also, the users of the paid version of this application now gets the capability of creating video and audio files that can be played back on compatible iPods. The new iPod Video is capable of playing MPEG-4 and H.264 video content. Overall, great products launch from the Macintosh makers.
