Meebo Instant Messaging: Nice AJAX implementation
AJAX seems to be revolutionizing the way we worked on the internet. Gmail made it popular and now we see more and more web based applications and services using this incredibly responsive technology to allow interaction between the user and the web. Meebo is a small startup working towards bringing the instant messaging capabilities to the Web 2.0.
The operations are managed by a group of three people working towards developing this fantastic web based product. It is not currently supporting Opera Browser, but seems to work nicely in Mozilla Firefox. They enables the user to connect and chat with their buddies using a web browser without any hassles as there are no page reloads and the conversations are done using AJAX.
It currently supports four popular IM standards: AOL/ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger, and Jabber/Google Talk. Users require no registration to use their services as they just enter their details on the homepage and login. The website handles the rest and the user land on a page, which resembles a Yahoo! Messenger client.
It provides quite a basic set of functionalities but works nicely. Users can see the profiles of the buddies, change their online status, and talk with multiple users. The chat windows function like regular windows applications and can be maximized or closed. They even overlap each other like in the regular usage with regular installed application.
In other words, the future of the web looks damn interesting with such fantastic applications coming up showing the power of the web!

About

Why would anyone trust this. It has a Javascript sign in thing that says signing in but no where outside of the web page suggests that the site is encrypted. This could be used as the greatest phishing hoax ever.
