NewsGator Technologies acquires NetNewsWire
NewsGator Technologies, developer of RSS products and services for the windows platform have announced plans to acquire the popular Macintosh RSS reader NetNewsWire. This means that the developer of the Mac software Brent Simmons would now be joining NewsGator Technologies and continue to work on this application.
Greg Reinacker CTO and Founder of NewsGator spoke to a media group: “We are very excited about this. We have an online platform that users can find what they are interested in and then we have lots of end user platforms, but people have been asking us for quite a while for a Mac client.†The news would give the company a base for the growing Mac community without establishing a new product from the start.
NewsGator specializes in providing a highly integrated and synchronized reading/viewing experience across multiple devices. This includes the web, mobile phones, televisions, and email clients. They recently took over FeedDemon giving them a product making the content available on the desktop. Now they would have a product offering for the Macintosh platform.
The company also confirmed that NetNewsWire would remain around the same price as it is now. In addition, existing NetNewsWire full-version customers will receive a free 2-year paid subscription to NewsGator Online.
