Google in a software alliance with Sun Microsystems
World’s leading search engine Google is expected to announced a software based agreement with the networking giant Sun Microsystems this week. The announcement is expected to come as early as today by Scott McNealy, Sun Microsystems Inc.’s CEO and president, and Google Inc. CEO Eric Schmidt at an event scheduled at Mountain View, California.
Market analysts believe that such an alliance would help the Sun to could elevate the profile of the OpenOffice.org and Java software packages. Google has the brand name and the user’s trust, which can help them make leverage of the software development capabilities of Sun to provide alternatives to Microsoft’s products to the users.
Google already has started attacking the software giant Microsoft with some of their software offerings which competes directly with Microsoft’s products but are yet to enter the company’s core business areas like Operating Systems and Office Suites. It is said that the man behind this collaboration is Joerg Heilig who used to be the director of engineering for StarOffice at Sun and now apparently works for Google.
