Hewlett-Packard to ship Netscape browser with new machines
This might not amuse the Hewlett-Packard fans. With most of the techie users preferring Mozilla Firefox or Opera to the default windows operating system browser Internet Explorer, Hewlett-Packard would be shipping their machines with the not so popular Netscape Browser starting pretty soon. This agreement would be the first of its kind for Netscape since the end of the browser wars in the 1990s.
Netscape is now a division of the America Online company and supports web page rendering in both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox engine. This enables the user to have the best of both worlds. However, the company is sometime found lagging in upgrading the versions to the latest editions of the Firefox engine leading to possible security issues in the browser for the end user. In addition, the redeveloped interface of the application also has found few takers.
In fact, on one of the older posts on this Blog, many users of the older generation Netscape browser have complained about the disappeared mail client in the latest versions, which is a big disappointment. The comments clearly show that the users preferred the browser with the mail client integrated and they won’t prefer to upgrade to the latest version unless it is bought back.
With this collaboration between AOL and Netscape, the buyers of the new HP laptops and desktops would find Netscape preinstalled on their new machines. And the users in U.S. and Canada will be able to choose Netscape as their default browser during computer setup.
