Visa to provide payment application for Google Android platform

Visa has announced that they are developing a payment software application for the Google Android mobile platform.

Google has just launched their G1 mobile phone which is the first to be powered by this new mobile platform.

Visa said that using their application, users will be able to receive near real-time alerts about purchases via their mobile devices.

The application would also use the GPS functionality to find ATM machines and nearby stores where the Visa users would be able to perform transactions.

Elizabeth Buse, Visa’s global products head spoke about their plans: “By developing these mobile services for the Android platform, Visa has taken a major step toward achieving our goal of combining two of the world’s most powerful and ubiquitous consumer innovations, electronic payments and mobile technology.”
