Symantec acquires WholeSecurity
Security software maker Symantec has informed that they would be acquiring California-based provider of security and anti-phishing technology WholeSecurity. WholeSecurity specializes in developing software, which analyzes the characteristics and actions of viruses, worms and other malicious code in an effort to provide real-time protection.
This characteristic makes them different from the traditional security applications, which uses signatures and definitions to identify a virus and remove them from the computer. They provide their services to both consumers and corporate entities. Enrique Salem, senior vice president of security products and solutions at Symantec said in a statement about their latest acquisition: “WholeSecurity offers industry leading protection from phishing attacks, one of the fastest growing threats to online transactions, such as banking, e-commerce and e-auctions.â€
As security becomes more and more important in the working environment, we are likely to see better consolidation of these security application developers. And improving technologies based on traditional methods become very important for the current market leaders to stay competitive in the ever-expanding market scenario with innovative developers.
