Apple release more updates for Panther, Tiger
Apple Computers has released new security updates for their Operating Systems Tiger and Panther. The update is Security Update 2005-008 and it is applicable for both Mac OS X 10.3.9 Panther and Mac OS X 10.4.2 Tiger. This patch brings to the apple owners a number of security enhancements, including updates to these components: ImageIO, LibSystem, Mail, QuickDraw, Ruby, SecurityAgent, and securityd as well as security fixes for Safari, Mail.app, QuickTime, QuickDraw, Mac OS X security, and more.
The company also launched the latest version of Backup (version 3.0). This is a backup application for the Macintosh platform. These updates are available as free download as well through the Mac OS X Software Update panel. One of these updates also fixes a vulnerability, which is related to the way a maliciously crafted GIF image may result in arbitrary code execution.
Another patch fixes a few bugs in Mail.app, which could expose the contents of encrypted messages when using auto-reply and could disclose sensitive information when using Kerberos Version 5 for SMTP authentication. Also included in this update are enhancements to LoginWindow for improved interaction with Parental Controls (Mac OS X v10.3.9), X509Anchors to include the Wells Fargo root certificate (Mac OS X v10.3.9), and Safe Download Validation to include Web Archives (Mac OS X v10.4.2).
