Opera launches Opera 8.5
Opera Software did not just send shockwaves through out the media with their announcement of going ad-free; they also released the latest stable version of their web browser. The latest version Opera 8.5 is now freely available for download from the company’s website and does not require the users to pay for removal of ads. All the features, which were reserved for paying customers, are now accessible in their free version.
The changelog in this new release is pretty slim with following updates:
Advertisement banner removed
Registration options removed
Updated end-user license agreement
Browser JavaScript fixes broken Web sites on the fly
The company basically mentions that the release is a security fix update and all the users should upgrade to the latest version. Bittorrent support is still not included as the company is still working on improving the implementation. Most of the recent preview releases had this support for the p2p protocol making it easier for users to download and share files.
The web browser has an incredibly loyal user base and the response from the users on the community forums has been phenomenal. The company itself expects its user base to increase massively in the coming months as they are now aiming to become the second most used web browser in the market. TechWhack recommends Opera to all its readers considering its one of the best feature packed product available in the market today.
