Tim Berners-Lee: Internet Explorer should support SVG format

Tim Berners-Lee is considered to be the father of the World Wide Web.

He has never been heard commenting about the various web browsers available in the market today.

But he has now expressed his displeasure on lack of support of an essential file format in Internet Explorer.

Microsoft Internet Explorer remains the most popular web browser in the market though Firefox has managed to take away some of its share.

Berners-Lee said in a statement that he does not like the fact that Microsoft is yet to provide inbuilt support for the SVG format in Internet Explorer.

Even the recently released IE 8 Beta 2 lack any support for this format. There is a plug-in available from Adobe which enables the functionality.

Adobe incidentally plans to soon end support for this plug-in which makes the situation worse.

SVG is a format which is recognized by the World Wide Web Consortium. It is used for vector graphics which do not get distorted when the size of the image is increased.

Almost all the other web browsers available in the market feature out of the box support for this file format.
