Ubuntu 9.04 named as Jaunty Jackalope

The developers behind the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution have now named their April 2009 edition.

The Ubuntu 9.04 version would be known as Jaunty Jackalope. They have continued the tradition to name the new versions after animals.

They are currently scheduled to release the next stable edition next month. Ubuntu 8.10 is named Intrepid Ibex.

Ubuntu promoter Mark Shuttleworth spoke about the new release name: “As we approach the launch of Ubuntu 8.10, it’s time to create space for future plans. (Jaunty Jackalope) will be the focus of our efforts from November through to April next year.”

He added: “The Jackalope is known for being so fast that it’s extremely hard to catch, and breeds only when lightning flashes. Let’s see if we can make booting or resuming Ubuntu blindingly quick.”
