Microsoft PhotoSynth goes public

Software giant Microsoft has now publicly released their PhotoSynth 3-D Photo Stitching Service.

The service has been designed to enable the web users to create navigable, three-dimensional visual “tours”.

They would supply digital photos of a place which would then be analyzed and stitched by the service to create these tours.

These tours are named synths and these could then be shared publicly on the website Photosynth.net.

Alex Daley, group product manager for Live Labs spoke about this new service: “The photo hasn’t fundamentally changed since it went digital.”

Users would however require tons of photos with overlapping components. Otherwise the service would fail to generate a good end product.

Update: One interesting thing to note here is that Microsoft is using GetSatisfaction for support for this latest service! The service seems to be under heavy load and does not work for us at this point of time.
