Google to soon launch an instant messenger?

Rumors are out since a long time that Google is planning on offering an instant messenger on the lines of AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger, and Yahoo! Messenger. The company has continued to penetrate deep into the markets of its competition after it emerged out of nowhere to become the leaders in the search engine market. The company also picked up a service closely resembling an Instant Messenger, which it purchased Picasa. Google’s Hello is a photo sharing application, which also allows the users to chat together.

Their were more market speculation a couple of days back that the company was planning on acquiring a new startup Meetroduction which recently launched a beta of their instant messaging application Meetro. However, nothing seems to have happened about these rumors. The latest news in is that the company is said to be closer to launching a similar service along with VoIP based solutions.

The rumor gets some base with the existence of an active section on the Google Website (http://google.com/talk). There are also technical proofs of a Jabber service currently running on the Google Servers, which could become the base for such a product from the company. Google Talk can appear as soon as this week if the rumors are to be believed. The company has as usual declined to comment on these rumors floating in the market.

The company works pretty much like Apple when it comes to launching new products and services. There are no pre-announcements and they just practically shock the end consumer. sIf the rumors are proven to be true, it would be bad news for Skype. The company is the market leader in the VoIP based software application market and the entry of Google would shake things up for them.
