openSUSE Linux 10.0 Beta1 is out for testing

OpenSUSE is the 10.0 upgrade of Novell’s SUSE LINUX Professional series. The difference from the prior versions is that the product is completely open sourced, and while the product’s code was “open” before, the development process is now “open” in addition for developers and users to contribute to the upgrading process. The YaST Online Update servers (previously available only to paying SUSE Professional customers) is now rumored to be free. The software, by definition, will also be free (for download). There will be two versions of OpenSUSE: one will contain plugins for Java, Flash, and Real, and another will be completely free.

The openSUSE project is a worldwide community program sponsored by Novell that promotes the use of Linux everywhere. There are many ways you can participate in the openSUSE project – first you should get a copy of SUSE Linux and install it on your machine.

Currently, SUSE Linux 10.0 Beta 1 (code name: Prague) is an unsupported, open source only, preliminary edition of SUSE Linux that contains bleeding-edge packages and represents the latest development snapshot.
