Symantec releases beta of Norton Antivirus 2006
Symantec, the makers the popular series of Norton Security applications have just released the beta of their latest version of Norton Antivirus 2006. The company claims that the application is one of the most popular Antivirus software in the world, though the users say the recently launched products from the company have become atrociously slow and less user friendly.
A statement from the company says this about this new application: “Norton Antivirus 2006 includes new improvements and features. Download the product now! Surf the Internet. Play your favorite games. Symantec is interested in your feedback and will give a FREE copy of Norton Antivirus 2006 to the first 50 beta users who submit undocumented bugs. Winners will be notified via email.â€
there is no support for this application considering its a beta and a free trial for the users interested in testing this application out. The beta works for 30 days and and requires a Pentium level CPU with at least a recent version of Internet Explorer installed. It supports Windows 2000 Professional SP3 and Windows XP Home/Professional Edition. Interested users can visit the website and apply for the beta download. For the rest of us, we would continue to use our low resource consuming anti-virus solutions.

I purchased the Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2006 and downloaded it from the web. During the installation, I was advised that a fatal error had occured, and that I should contact Symantec Technical Support. When I tried that clickable link, I found that I was no longer able to access ANYTHING on my computer. After extensive telephone contact with Symantec Tech Support, I was advised that I should contact Dell (my computer manufacturer)and that I would most likely have to reinstall my operating system. I contacted Dell, and am awaiting a disc from them to do this. My computer is totally non-functional at this time, and I do not know whether or not I will be able to restore many important documents and photographs. Symantec Tech Support told me that this has happened “in a couple of instances”. I will post an update to this after I re-install my operating system. So far the cost: 49.95 for Symantec 2006 upgrade, 99.00 for Dell 1-time incident support. Ian McIntyre, Miami,FL.

Same thing happened with Norton IS 2006 and me. I was ‘helping’ my sister and this happened to her computer. Now active desktop is disabled and we can’t acccess anything on her desktop. Even restoring to last good config didn’t help. Wish I hadn’t done it. Now she’ll have to start over. I feel like it’s my fault, but it isn’t. This is why I keep my files backed up and hesistate downloading files. I’ll bet a couple of instances is bigger than they’ll admit. They’ve already been paid. I should have done a search for the program before I installed it.

I tried installing the Norton Antivirus 2006 on my computer when a fatal error occured and I am unable to access anything on my computer. All applications (MS word, Excel etc), all files, etc all seem to have frozen. Looks like this has happened with others also. I am currently trying to get in touch with the telephone support and since you guys have already tried this stuff out, it does not help. I hope I am able to save my files.

I have had the same problem as everyone else… I would truly recommend to anyone thinking about purchasing the Symantec 2006 not to do so! It has been nothing but a headache and I am still without my home computer to this day. I haven taken my computer in to be looked at; the only thing the technician can offer me is to get my money back and buy a router!

Same thing has happened to me, tried to install NAV2006, was told to unistall old version, did that, tried to install NAV2006 again, 1/2 way through install got a fatal error, then couldnt access anything except IE so I still had the internet. Their support will leave you fending for yourself. It not worth the hassel of buying NAV 2006, my computer still aint right, you have go into safe mode and change the permission settings on windows registry. Go to this link http://service1.symantec.com/support/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2005101313450613 I can you my email and get to most of my programs and most of all my pictures. Things still arnt right! I think they me and everbody else a refund and then some!

I purchased NAV 2006 and NIS2006, NAV will not run a full virus scan without probs; it scans to about 4400 files and hangs up. Stop scan is veerrryyy slow, Ctrl-Alt-Del and restart scan, same thing; Restart PC and restart scan same thing. I hate the thing. george barnes

I purchased this sofeware on line after I was asked by the previous version to up date and like a fool I did and now have my computer away being reinstalled with the software that was on it my whole system crashed I am so happy that I bought this software (NOT).
The problem I found was that when I down loaded and installed the soft ware i then went to activate it and the computer then slowed to a rate that would make a statled snail look like a racing rat.
Hmmmmmmm I bet I dont get my money back for the rebuild on my computer the best thing i suggest is that if it doesnt work get onto your credit card provider and stop the payment for no service provided, maybe if we all do that then Symantec might do something about the problem.

i had the same problem but seem to have solved it god knows how all i know is that i ran a search for norton on my computer and deleted everything i had of them (but dont advise it as i really dont know what im talking about) and then i emptied my recycle bin some files would not delete – maybe this is a security messure gone wrong.. all my programs are working fine now after i reinstalled spybot search and destroy and adaware se – also what i really think did the trick now that i have really had a think about it was ‘eusing free registry cleaner’ this program is freeware and can be downloaded from http://www.download.com good luck…
