AVG fixes bug in LinkScanner component of their Anti-Virus product
Security software maker AVG has now made available patches for the LinkScanner component of their anti-virus products.
This component is designed to check for bad links on the web while the user checked out the search engines.
It ended up accessing all the pages listed on the search result pages leading to false hits on them.
Web publishers complained that the tool was causing unnecessary load on their servers in addition to fake entries in their logging engines.
The updated tool would not hit all the websites on searches made by the user of the software.
AVG did not reveal the changes but apparently it would now check the results against a list of pre-defined bad sites.
