Xandros acquiring Linspire

Xandros has announced that they have now acquired Linspire.

Linspire develops a Linux based operating system in addition to a Click-n-Run shop and business model.

The two companies did not disclose the financial aspects of this deal.

Linspire is expected to continue releasing their Linspire Linux edition in the coming months.

Freespire would also continue to be developed by the open source community.

Market analysts said that the deal is little to do with the Linux OS but for the CNR model.

Linspire founder Michael Robertson spoke about this deal: “Xandros has emerged as a leader in the OEM, mobility, desktop and PC management and application business, so I’m excited to see the Linspire technology, including CNR, go to a worthy competitor that shares our vision. The Linux business is going through some healthy and necessary consolidation, which will give resulting companies greater assets and size to deliver on larger initiatives so Linux can touch more people.”
