Windows XP to be supported for three extra years

Microsoft continues to give more hints that they are accepting that people are just not prepared to move from Windows XP to Windows Vista.

Earlier this year the company confirmed that they would continue to sell Windows XP through some versions of computers (UMPC and Low Cost Laptops).

Now, Microsoft said that Windows XP would be supported for three extra years.

The company usually support their operating system releases for a period of 10 years.

Microsoft also hinted that the next version of Windows OS is likely to appear in 2010.

Windows XP would get patches and security updates until April 2014.

A company representative said: “Our ongoing support for Windows XP is the result of our recognition that people keep their Windows-based PCs for many years.”
