Reddit goes open source!
Reddit is one of the several social news websites (along with Digg).
The developers have announced that they are open sourcing the code behind the service.
They believe that open sourcing the system would speed up the development of the engine.
It would also increase the transparency considering people would get to see the algorithm being used to position the stories on the service.
The developers also said that they love the open source community and this is their contribution to the movement.
Reddit added:
“Here you can download the code, participate in the forum, and help maintain our documentation wiki. As you can see, documentation is a little skimpy at the moment… that will improve.”
They are however blocking access to the code that is related to anti-cheating/spam protection.
