Apple announces Mac OS X Snow Leopard
As expected, Apple has named the next version of Mac OS X as Snow Leopard.
However, the company did not reveal anything else as the focus was on the second generation Apple iPhone which comes loaded with 3G support.
Apple however did say that the next version would focus on performance enhancements rather than new features.
It would be further optimized for multi-core processors and would support breakthrough amounts of RAM.
Apple also announced a new, modern media platform with QuickTime X.
Company Bertrand Serlet added: “We have delivered more than a thousand new features to OS X in just seven years and Snow Leopard lays the foundation for thousands more. In our continued effort to deliver the best user experience, we hit the pause button on new features to focus on perfecting the world’s most advanced operating system.”
