Google: Android platform would be totally open source
Search engine giant Google has clarified that their under development mobile platform Android would be completely open source.
Most of the elements would be released under the Apache software license.
However, this license provides third party developers the freedom to pick their own licenses for their products and software.
So, this means that applications and other enhancements developed by OEMs, mobile operators might not be released under an open source license.
Google itself is not planning to release some of their own apps under open source as Gmail. They are however going to be bundled along with the Android platform.
