Facebook announces Facebook Open Platform
Social networking service Facebook has announced that they are now planning to open source part of their application development platform.
They have named it Facebook Open Platform.
The company said that they would open source “most” of the code that runs its platform in addition to implementations of its most popular methods and tags.
Market analysts say that this is in response to the Google’s OpenSocial initiative which is gathering momentum.
Yahoo, AOL and MySpace are supporters of Google OpenSocial platform and are also the rivals of the Facebook service.
