Mozilla Firefox races towards 10% market share

Mozilla Foundation has done an incredible job with the Firefox web browser. The browser was released a couple of months ago and it already has done incredibly in the market. The open source browser has reportedly led to Microsoft deciding on restarting development work on their Internet Explorer and we are expected to see the next version (Internet Explorer 7) before the end of the year.

Earlier this week, the organization launched their latest version of the Firefox browser, which had some security bugs fixed, and some stability issues addressed. And more good news is in store for the Mozilla fans as the market reports say that the browser is now racing towards achieving 10% market share in the web browser segment.

A company involved in making applications for monitoring and measuring Web site usage has just released their latest statistic reports and it says that the Mozilla Firefox browser has increased its market share to 8.71 percent, up from 8 percent in May. The report further said that IE’s share shrank to 86.56 percent from 87.23 percent in that period.

If we look at these figures over the last couple of months, the browser has seen an improvement of around 1% in share of the web browser market every single month since the beginning of the year. Market experts have said that reaching the 10% market share is somewhat important for the browser to get corporate acceptance resulting in more widely acceptance in enterprise environment.

These guys at Firefox are so good that they now need to ship 1.0.6 to correct the sloppiness in 1.0.5. One must wonder at why they have so much celebrity. Yes, they fix things quickly; but they fix things that should have been done correctly before they were shipped.
