EU to look into Microsoft’s announcement to support ODF in Office

Microsoft has surprised market experts by announcing that they would soon add inbuilt functionality in MS Office suite to let the user edit and access ODF format files.

The company aims to support this open source format by early next year in their own office productivity suite.

ODF format is supported by several rival products including OpenOffice and StarOffice.

The European Commission responded to this announcement through a statement saying that they have noted down the efforts being made by the US based company to enhance the interoperability of their products.

The EU added that they would investigate into this new feature addition to see whether it delivers what is being promised by the company or not.
