Apple releases Mac OS X 10.4.2
Apple is continuing to update their latest offering in the Operating System market with the latest updated version. The latest update is the Mac OS X 10.4.2 and it comes with bug fixes and around dozens of improvements and enhancements to bundled applications. One of the crucial update is to the operating system’s wireless technology, dubbed AirPort. Other applications like Mail, iChat, the Finder, Stickies, and Safari have also been updated.
The company also fixed the OS’s internal software update system to prevent crashes while trying to update the operating system itself. Another bug fix is related to the problem on some machines that wake from a hibernated state to a black screen. Also fixed are the background maintenance chores, which had some reliability issues. This Mac OS X Update 10.4.2 also addresses an issue with the operating system’s TCP/IP stack, which allowed a specially formed TCP/IP packet to cause a kernel panic resulting in a system reboot.
There are many more updates related to Dashboard, Mac OS X Server, support for Open Directory and Windows Server 2003 Active Directory. Apple has issued these updates for both the workstation and desktop variants. Apple has provided two separate ways to implement these upgrades. Users can either use the internal software update facility or download the patches from the Apple’s website for free.
