Yahoo! Desktop Search supports Mozilla Thunderbird

This news highlights the power of the Open Source applications in today’s times. People are moving towards the alternative offerings to popular applications like Microsoft Internet Explorer and Outlook. Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird seems to be the popular alternatives. When Google and Yahoo! launched their respective Desktop Search applications, both the companies forgot to include support for these Mozilla applications.

Google was first to recover from that hiccup as public demand led them to add support for Firefox and Thunderbird applications in their Google Desktop Search. Now, the latest news in is that Yahoo! has also added support for the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client. However, the support for Firefox is still a dicey issue.

The search engine giant announced the arrival of this updated version of their Yahoo! Desktop Search Beta application on their Search Blog. Some of the other new features in this update include enhanced user interface and inclusion of tabs. The company has also modified the application to support a basic set of file types in the default installation. Users are free to get access to a massive number of additional formats after downloading a free extension pack.

We at TechWhack have tested the application and found it to be faster at indexing the complete hard drives when compared to Google Desktop Search. However, the integration of the results of the Google Desktop Search in regular Google Search Results is something, which has won our hearts.
