Microsoft aims to have 40% share of Smartphone OS market by 2012
Microsoft is already the dominating player in the desktop operating system market with their various versions of Windows OS.
The company has now said that they are aiming to have a 40% market share in the Smartphone category in the next four years.
Microsoft currently is a relatively smaller player in the market which has several players competing. Symbian, Blackberry, Palm and now Appleās Mobile OS X are all competing in this field.
Add to that the Linux powered platforms including Google Android which is expected to become a big player in this segment of the market.
The software giant added that they expect sales of Windows Mobile powered devices to touch 20 million this fiscal year.
As per market analysts Symbian dominates the market with 67 percent market share. Microsoft is second with 13% and RIM Blackberry platform has a 10% share.
