Windows XP Service Pack 3 causing endless reboots for some customers

Market reports say that some users are facing massive issues with the recently released Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Some users have reported that their computer continues to reboot endlessly after the installation.

AMD processor powered machines seems to be the worst one to be affected by these problems.

A company support document stated: “The problem may occur if the original Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) Sysprep image is created on an Intel-processor-based computer and if the Sysprep image is then deployed on a non-Intel-processor-based computer.”

Looks like the computer manufacturers are to be blamed for most of this mess as they used an image designed for Intel processors on computers which were loaded with AMD processors.

Expert Jesper Johansson had this to say: “The problem is that HP, and possibly other OEMs, deploy the same image to Intel-based desktops that they do to AMD-based desktops. Microsoft points out in a Knowledge Base article that installing both drivers on the same computer is an unsupported configuration, putting the blame on the OEM that deploys the image. The article in question was written when the same problem occurred after installing Service Pack 2 for Windows XP.”
