Sun Microsystems set to launch OpenSolaris with support
Sun Microsystems is going to launch today the supported version of OpenSolaris at the CommunityOne conference in San Francisco.
This supported edition would be version 2008.5. Sun spoke about this launch: “It’s a major milestone in the development of OpenSolaris, and opens the door for more deployments.”
They are going to give out more details on pricing for the support later this month.
Sun added that they would be releasing new updates for this operating system every six months.
Kjell Högström, senior systems engineer at Sun added: “AMP is the important part, the operating system is there to support the applications, and we can do that at least as good as Linux. We first have to earn the trust of customers.”
