Opera Browser does it again: embeds a Bittorrent client!

Opera Browser ASA has done it again. The browser application remains smaller than four Megs in its download size and this time they have incorporated a Bittorrent client in the default package! This new feature is available in the just launched test version codenamed Opera 8.02 technical preview 1. The company is expected to launch this preview version publicly later today as the download is currently just available on the servers.

The test results from the various sources confirm that the preview edition still does not pass out in the Acid2 test. However, the addition of the Bittorrent protocol is somewhat of a major update. Many corporations provide their applications in the form of Bittorrent files for which normally the users have to download a separate Bittorrent client.

Since Opera Browser comes with an inbuilt download manager, adding support for downloads through Bittorrent technology is not such a big deal. However, for advanced users, the functionality of the BT client inside Opera is not very impressive. There are no controls for limiting the bandwidths. You cannot see the seeders. It just acts as a normal download. of course, considering it’s a BT client, the data is simultaneously made available for upload.

The changelog should have more details about the other updates.

Your posts are showing up twice on the Opera Blogs interface – if I’m not wrong it’s not the first time. You should probably have one of your feeds removed – or have them merged. Ask in the Take Action Forum.

i do not see 2 rss feed links for the posts on this page. if it is a bug on their programming module, it is not my problem.

Well, it normally happens when you submit more than one feed when you first signed up. If you have a look at the “most visited” portion of the site, you’ll see that “software journal” appears twice. It’s evident from the urls, where the consecutive posts point to source=91 and the other source=93. It’s not a big deal, and one that can be easily corrected by asking in the forums for the feeds/postcounts to be merged. The programming module is simply reflecting the fact that the feed/s was submitted more than once – it is not “bug”. Some people have more than one blog, which is why they allow multiple feeds. In your case that doesn’t apply.
