Fennec: Codename for Mozilla Firefox for Mobile Devices

Chairman of the Mozilla Foundation Mitchell Baker said in a statement that the mobile edition of Firefox codenamed Fennec would simplify web browsing on mobile devices.

He added that this application would enhance web browsing capabilities on the small screen platform.

Baker further said that access to data available online should not be limited by the kind of device being used.

Mozilla has designed Fennec in such a way that it provides a totally open development platform. The web browser is currently in early development stages and would take a while before it becomes usable on the mobile platform.

Its biggest rival in this market include the Opera Mobile, Opera Mini, Apple Safari Mobile and of course the Internet Explorer Mobile.
