Windows XP to remain on sale for low cost laptops till 2010

Microsoft has said that they are going to offer their Windows XP operating system to system manufacturers till 2010.

However, it would only be offered through ultra low cost laptops like the Asustek EEE PC.

The company said that they would offer it till June 30, 2010, or one year after the availability of their next operating system which is currently codenamed Windows 7.

Bill Gates has been quoted as saying that he expects to see Windows 7 out in the market by next year.

It is pretty clear that this step has been taken by the company to make sure that the cheap laptop market does not get taken away from Linux.

The demand for these machines is growing as more options are made available to the customer.
