Microsoft now aims to integrate RSS into Longhorn
Microsoft is famous for picking up things late. They discovered the power of the Internet late and they discovered the power of the search engine and for that matter advertisement on search results late. While, they somewhat conquered the Internet genre by integrating the Internet Explorer browser in their Operating System, search engine is turning out to be a tougher deal.
Now, the biggest software company in the world is realizing the power of the RSS technology. They have announced plans to support this xml feed concept in their next generation Operating System codenamed longhorn. The next version of Internet Explorer is also rumored to be supporting this XML format in a similar fashion as Apple Safari does.
The company revealed their plans at the Gnomedex technology conference in Seattle on Friday. RSS has really picked up in the last couple of years with Blogs getting popular and push technology enticing web users to use them extensively. Opera was one of the first one to fully incorporate this feature in their web browser with Mozilla following them closely. Internet Explorer 7 is expected to offer similar facility to subscribe to RSS feeds of a website on clicking a button.
Dean Hachamovitch, a general manager in charge of Longhorn development said in a statement to a media group: “We want RSS everywhere. I want it in more than just the browser and aggregators. We want to help RSS get even bigger and better than todayâ€. Now, how good their implementation would be is something we would only come to know sometime later this year when the first beta of the Internet Explorer 7 arrives in the market.
