Office Open XML could become an ISO standard

Market sources say that Microsoft could soon find some major relief as their Office Open XML is likely to garner enough votes to become an ISO Standard.

The official results are likely to come later today.

The voting was closed Saturday night and market sources say that the format is likely to get the necessary combination of more than two-thirds approve votes and less than a quarter for disapprove.

This would be major victory for the software giant as the format would then become more attractive to government customers who are concerned about the long-term archives of digital documents.
