Security flaw reported in VLC Player

VLC media player is one of the most popular media player applications in the market today.

The open source application is reported to have a security flaw which can be used by hackers to execute harmful code on a PC.

Market sources say that the flaw is based on a buffer overflow that can occur when the player processes subtitle files used for movies.

Security expert Luigi Auriemma spoke about his findings: “The funny thing is that my old proof-of-concept was built just to test this specific buffer overflow, and in fact it works on the new VLC version too without modifications.”
